How to setup a Custom Domain and captcha
Websites that use forms will need to be secured from spamming by ‘Spam-Bots’. Spam-Bots will visit your site and fill out forms that are not secured. This can result in comment spamming in forums, spam emails being sent from your server, and other spam-related activities. Google has what is called ‘reCAPTCHA that lets you embed a CAPTCHA in your web pages to protect them against spam and other types of automated abuse. This requires the person filling in and submitting the form to type the code correctly before the form can be submitted.
When setting up web forms in your system, you will need to have two keys created for yours reCAPTCHA to work—a public and a private key. You can get these free from Google if you have a Gmail account.
To get a free reCAPTCHA key from Google, here’s what you need to do.
- In Google’s search field, type Recaptcha.
You will see a link that says https://www.google.com/recaptcha.
- Click the link.
You will be directed to the Google reCAPTCHA page.
- Click Get reCAPTCHA.
- Sign in using your Google account credentials.
- In the Label field, type the name of the LMS.
- In the Domains field, type the domain you are using the reCAPTCHA for.
- Click Register.
Google will generate the site key and the secret key. These are the reCAPTCHA keys you will use in your Software.
Note: To use reCAPTCHA, you need to sign up for API keys for your site by following the above steps. The keys are unique to the domain you specify, and their respective sub-domains. Specifying more than one domain could come in handy in case you serve your website from multiple top level domains (for example: yoursite.com, yoursite.net).
